Plenary

Compared to the committees, plenary is the full assembly of the State Parliament. In the plenary sittings, all laws and other significant decisions related to politics in Rhineland-Palatinate are debated and adopted. The Members of the State Parliament usually meet once a month for plenary sittings which take place in the plenary chamber on two or three days. Between plenary sittings, bills and other matters for debate are discussed in advance in the committees. At the beginning of a plenary sitting, current topics are usually discussed. Members of the State Government then answer interpellations from Members of the State Parliament. Bills and motions are debated and voted on and reports are presented and discussed.

The State Parliament has a quorum when more than half of its members are present. Plenary sittings are open to the public: Citizens as well as the press, radio and television can visit. Advance registration is required. Link to “Visit the State Parliament”
